A sales and events manager markets and coordinates event space on behalf of a distillery, whisky bar & restaurant or other attractions and visitor centers.

You are responsible for the planning and day to day activity of the work, including the use of initiative to resolve problems and take decisions within agreed parameters for events.

The sales and events manager position also includes managing and administering all commercial and public events, ensuring that the organization meets or exceed customer expectations.

What would I be doing?

 Evaluating and critically analysing all events following their delivery, including seeking customer feedback

  • Overseeing the designing and production of all marketing collateral, promotion, and adverts
  • Collating and distributing whisky sample packs and other promotional items to clients and potential clients
  • Liaising with clients from the beginning to the end, and also attending the event to ensure that it goes smoothly
  • Actively participating in training and development programs and maximizing opportunities for self-development
  • Responsible for all project and event budgets from the beginning to the end
  • Responsible for the satisfaction of clients or customers by ensuring excellent customer service and quality delivery
  • Building relationships and networking
  • Developing good working relationships with event coordinators at distilleries in order to plan meetings, annual dinners, functions bookings
  • Preparing proposals for clients and maintaining well-organised event records
  • Maintaining working relationships with internal and external partners and holding these relationships to deliver innovative and memorable events
  • Making prospecting calls to potential clients over the whisky industry.

 A sales and events manager must possess the excellent ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and openly in all interactions. He or she must also demonstrate a positive attitude while communicating with clients or co-workers

  • Maintain a good composure and organization in order to efficiently and effectively carry out his or her duties
  • A sales and events manager must demonstrate accountability; the ability to be responsible, reliable, or amenable. He or she must be able to answer for the total expenditures and budgets in the course of planning, organizing, running, or marketing an event
  • Another major skill or qualification a sales and events manager should possess is resiliency; the ability to be strong and flexible. He or she must be able to endure tribulation and come up with a new plan when there is a glitch, or when all isn’t going as planned
  • He or she must demonstrate the ability to work with maximum accuracy, efficiency, and attention to detail.

What about the pay?

Sales & events managers can earn between 25,000 and 33,000 pounds per year depending on experience.

What qualifications do I need?

Sales and events manager is required to possess a High School diploma and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration.

You would also retain attention of recruiters if you have a level of WSET.

Employers often require three to five years of experience in events management and organisation, including corporate meetings or wine and spirits related events.

You are also required when needed to assist with creating awareness about an event by updating web listings and social media design, production and distribution of leaflets or posters, and updating internal notice boards, as we as booking advertising space and so on.
