This role involves working in a busy environment to produce a high-quality spirit, whilst working in a safe, compliant manner and utilising your resources to maximise flavour and efficiencies. The Glenturret remains a very manual, hands-on distillery, and the ideal candidate will have an interest in every part of the whisky making process. You will be expected to work to a very high standard, with training provided by our experienced team. All operations will adhere to HMRC, H & S, food safety, feed safety (FEMAS) and environmental compliance, as well as working within Glenturret’s procedures, work instructions and recipes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • To receive malt and store securely in the appropriate bin as per work instruction
  • To carry out malt preparation to the required quality and quantity for use in mashing as per work instruction and recipe
  • To gain maximum available extract from the malt provided and ensure the wort reaches the Tunroom in optimum condition
  • To receive yeast and store securely, as per procedures
  • To gain maximum fermentation efficiency from the malt provided and ensure this reaches the Stillhouse in optimum condition
  • To obtain maximum possible spirit of the desired quality from wash provided, as per work instruction and recipe
  • Ensure the highest possible quality of spirit is obtained, in line with specifications
  • To achieve all results as economically as possible, ensuring energy consumption and losses are kept to a minimum
  • To monitor and maintain boiler, economically and safely
  • Carry out all aspects of filling and warehousing of casks as required
  • Work closely with the Spirit Handling & Logistics Supervisor, Whisky Maker and Facilities team as required
  • Ensure all areas on site, including plant, are kept clean, tidy and in a safe condition making sure that all defects found on instruments or plant are reported
  • To participate fully in continually improving the way we work on site
  • To develop team working on site by assisting where possible to pass on skills and knowledge

About You:

The successful candidate should have previous experience in a similar role/ the production of spirits. GCD certificated (or similar) is advantageous. The ability to work as part of a team, as well as the capability and confidence to work on your own is essential and due to the nature of this role, a high level of flexibility is required.

You should possess strong communication skills, be well organised, resourceful and self-motivated.
